Meet

the Founder of Kîsisam

Dominique Lalonde

Kîsisam was born from a journey back to the forest—back to my roots, my ancestors, and my purpose.

My name is Dominique Lalonde, an Indigenous pastry chef from Sachigo Lake First Nation. After over 20 years in pastry and French cuisine, and graduating from Le Cordon Bleu, my path changed in a way I never expected.

After losing my grandparents during COVID, I returned to the land. In the forest, I began to truly listen—to the plants, the medicines, and the teachings passed down through generations. Each ingredient revealed its story, just as it had for my ancestors.

In 2019, I received my spirit name, Neu Uasstessiu Nipish—“Woman of the Four Colours of Fall.” With that came a responsibility: to honor my path and share what I had learned.

Kîsisam, meaning “she who bakes with fire,” was born soon after.

Today, every pastry we create is more than food—it is a story. A story of the land, of Indigenous knowledge, of resilience, and of connection. Using locally sourced and foraged ingredients, we bring boreal flavors to life through the lens of both ancestral tradition and refined pastry techniques.

Kîsisam is not just a pâtisserie.
It is an experience of Indigenous storytelling in every bite.

We invite you to come and discover it for yourself.

BOOSHOO,

In 2019,

I received my Spirit Name Neu Uasstessiu Nipish_woman of the Four Colours of Fall __ and my clan, the Eagle Clan. When we receive our Spirit name, it is our life’s mission to give honour to our name and realize its full potential, growing and learning as we go and to let ourselves be guided by Spirit.

The inspiration for Kisisâm came soon after.  Kisisâm in my language means “she who bakes with fire”.  My eyes were now wide open.  That flower or plant or fungi now spoke to me, unveiling their gifts one by one and how they were used by my ancestors as food or medicine.  My heart and mind were on a journey of discovery.  People came into my life that shared the same core values and my love for locally-sourced and foraged ingredients. I wanted to share that with others and this led me to finding my path__ with pastries inspired by my Indigenous roots, let people experience the art of Indigenous storytelling baked into every bite!

I am still early in my journey.  I opened Kisisâm officially in the summer of 2023.  I thank the Creator every day for the many blessings and helping me bring the voices of my ancestors forward.

Chi Miigwech!

Before Kîsisam became a pâtisserie, it began with observation — through photography.

In the forest, the land revealed its spirit through light, movement, and detail. These moments were captured as a way to honor and understand the connection between nature, story, and creation.

This collection, The Earth Spirits of Kîsisam, marks the beginning of our journey.

“Kîsisam is a way of sharing what the land has taught me. Each creation holds a story — of memory, of resilience, and of connection. This is Indigenous storytelling, expressed through creation.”
